As part of the ongoing Youth Path Project funded by UNESCO, the Saint Lucia National Youth Council (NYC) is implementing a series of workshops targeted at poverty alleviation through tourism heritage”.
On October 20 this year, a workshop was held in tourism and hospitality in the community of Anse-La-Raye. Now, on November 14-15, the youth of both communities will receive first-hand training in simple local craft production.
The NYC realizes the need to encourage young unemployed youth to utilize their immediate surroundings and the positive elements of their community as mediums of innovation and income generation.
Amidst the negativity of crime and violence in these communities, we believe there are youth with great potential to be harnessed.
This workshop also falls on the heels of Global Entrepreneurship Week for which the NYC commends the St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce for inspiring the spirits of entrepreneurship among youth.
We call on media houses to make an extra effort in highlighting the positivity of youth events even amidst the scar of recent crimes.
