‘Working hard to restore order…’

Minister Hyppolite

Below is a second anniversary message from Emma Hippolyte, parliamentary representative for Gros Islet.

On November 28, 2011, the Saint Lucia Labour Party won the elections, took over the reins of power, and formed the Government of Saint Lucia. Since then, and in spite of the economic and social situation, the Saint Lucia Labour Party Government has been working hard to restore order in our country.

This has not been easy considering the complete devastation left by Hurricane Tomas, and the world economic crisis gripping the Caribbean region, and, indeed Saint Lucia.

But we are coping in these trying times. Gradually we have been able to restore our infrastructure; we are working tirelessly to put people back to work, and putting new life into the health, education, and social & economic sectors.

To celebrate this very important victory for our nation, the Gros Islet constituency is observing the Saint Lucia Labour Party’s second anniversary celebration with a thanksgiving mass at the church of the Saint Joseph the Worker, Gros Islet, and a health fiesta after both masses.

As parliamentary representative for the Gros Islet constituency, I invite all my constituents to participate in the celebration in the activities which have been organised for the second anniversary.

I thank you.

Emma Hippolyte.

  1. Sounds like this economic crisis started the last two years. Even Hurricane Tomas sounds like it was 2012. Oh yes Emma you forgot the drought. Wasn't that part of a challenging economic situation. With all this we still were able to achieve growth in the economy.

If Emma wants to see it from our perspective our economic situation started with VAT and reduction in subsidies in rice, sugar, flour and chicken backs. Increase in Water rates. Ever increasing fuel costs. Increase in unemployment and suicides. Closure of several businesses. Confusion in the Justice and other Ministries. The downgrading of the country's economic rating by the relevant Agencies. Increased sensorship of the media. Pending litigation by Grynberg. Comatose state of construction and Manufacturing sector. A debt ratio ner 80%.
This is the collateral damage to our economy by this present administration. Is Emma or the functionally illiterate majority of our population listening?

      • YOu know! All of a sudden it's all about the global crisis. It is so unfair to pretend that it was not so under the last government. Emma have not lived to expectations and there is nothing she can do that can pull her out of that rot.

  3. Dear Aunty Emma,

In all honesty I can't say Happy Anniversary to you on this occussion. I won't be a hypocrite and shout Viva Enrough from the top of my lungs. Things aren't right in the country and a lot of people who voted for you can't wait to kick you out. Unlike other representatives your performance have been wanting. I suggest that you prepare yourself for a smooth transition into private life. We love you but you just don't have it.

    Sincerely,

    Dissappointed
