WordAlive 2013, St. Lucia’s premier annual literary event, will once again be the launch pad for the work of a leading St. Lucian writer.
Navel String, the latest collection of poetry by Adrian Augier, resonates with the rich imagery of Caribbean life, politics and social history.
The event at Samaans Park on Thursday, April 18, 2013 will feature introductory remarks by former educator and celebrated Caribbean academic, Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy.
Also included in the evening’s program are, multimedia presentations, a digital art exposition by young St. Lucian photographer Jermain Polius. A dramatization of “Seafarers,” the opening piece of the Navel String collection, will be enacted by accomplished stage personalities, Natalie La Porte and Stacey Melissa Giddings.
On Friday, April 19, 2013, WordAlive presents Caribbean Voices headlined by the dynamic poet and musician, Joby Bernabé of Maartinique.
The Festival, which runs until Saturday, April 20, culminates with the WordAlive Performance Poetry Competition, featuring guest artist, renowned Trinidadian storyteller Rita Cox.
In 2012 WordAlive proudly presented the world premier book launch of Derek Walcott’s White Egrets, which won the T.S Elliot Prize for Poetry and the OSM Bocas prize for Caribbean Literature.
