(PRESS RELEASE VIA SNO) – Windward and Leeward Brewery Ltd. (WLBL) made a donation to The Child Development and Guidance Centre (CDGC) which will go seven boys and girls whose family could not afford school fees and supplies for this academic year. The donation shows WLBL’s commitment to the youth as part of its Brewing a Better World Corporate Social Responsibility Program focused on youth development and education.
“When the CDGC reached out to us and explained the plight of the families of these children, who could not afford to send their kids to school we immediately wanted to assist. Not only does this fit in with our CSR strategy, but it highlights our commitment to youth development. In a country like St. Lucia which does not have social safety nets such as free health care and tertiary education, the development of the youth and constant engagement in the improvement of education programs are the only way to break cycles of poverty and to contribute to the economic development of the country” stated Fayola Ferdinand, Corporate Relations Manager.
Throughout the years, WLBL has been instrumental in the development of the nation’s youth and employees of the company. The company has vibrant scholarship and internship programs and a textbook scheme where over 140 children benefit from receiving textbooks every academic year.
Dr. Kim Gardener-Sadoo Director of the CDGC indicated “The children and parents served by the Child Development and Guidance Centre would like to take this opportunity to thank the Management and Staff of the Windward and Leeward Brewery for their financial support with this donation that will go towards pre-school fees and supplies. This donation has helped support seven boys and girls with preschool placements for the duration of this academic school year. On behalf of the CDGC team and the parents of the preschool scholarship recipients we would like to thank you again for meeting this need and investing in our St. Lucian children.”
