PRESS RELEASE – The women’s arm of the United Workers’ Party, Women In Action (WIA), calls for the immediate resignation of Minister of Health, Wellness, Human Services and Gender Relations, Alvina Bertrame Reynolds, and Minister of Legal Affairs, Home Affairs and Internal Security, Senator Victor Philip La Corbiniere.

Under Minister Reynolds’ watch there have been serious breaches and gaps in the public health systems with regards to health and safety, medical procedures and questions have been raised about the technical competencies of surgeons and other medical personnel.

Also, a number of unexplained deaths have occurred at public health facilities and results of investigations have yet to materialise despite promises made by Minister Reynolds.

Contagious diseases such as Chikungunya are rampant while the minister has failed to inform the citizens of the extent of this epidemic, which is widespread, nor has she bothered to embark on any public education campaign.

Minister La Corbiniere continues to ignore the serious crime situation. The Forensic Laboratory remains comatose without proper technical staff and the minister is now callously asking aggrieved citizens to seek recourse through the civil courts in cases where citizens died whilst in custody of the state.

Minister La Corbinere is oblivious to the many victims of rape and families of victims of murder, who crave emotional relief and closure by ensuring that all investigative services, especially forensic, are functioning properly and efficiently.

In this regard WIA calls for both ministers be relieved of their duties or resign immediately.

  1. Dem WIA members should go seat down. Why is it that they did not ask their so called ministers of parliament who got St. Lucia's reputation on the wrong side of every international agency to depart office so Lucia could catch her breath? Is this love of country of love of what I can get from my mother? Speak some sence and let mother Helen continue to breath a sigh of relief from the devastation left behind by the corruption battle that it was exposed to during the reign of the UWP.

  2. This call for resignation is so ridiculous it's beyond laughable. Anyone asked for the resignation of the guys Mayers or Joseph who sat by a watched the revocation of visa from Sitting Ministers knowing full well the reason for the US decision. The other guy has been involved in A&M drawing millions to now own farms overseas. Be fair and objective and stop jumping on all band wagon that ready to bachay!

    • Uh if all I see is party then what the hell is WIA seeing? why was every uwp member quiet when it was proven that guy joseph used treasury like his personal bank account? If we are so much in the interest of Saint Lucia by asking these two to resign, then Guy Joseph should never participate in politics again, period

  4. Min. of Security & Min. of Sports should without a doubt be forced to resign. In relation to the prior there were major cases of public interest which he has not shown the commitment to people of st.lucia that he is indeed work for them/us 1 case in point would be the Shakadan Daniel case instead he heavily pursued the media which is clearly his right to address but not his portfolio Ministers need to be reminded that if you fail the people no matter the minority you have also failed St. Lucia. In regards to Min. of Sports I am yet to see his impact or the impact of the last 3 ministers to hold this post. At the end of it all I think that if the Ministry for Sports do not have the inspiration to create professional athletes within our society and provide for them an avenue eg. A local professional football/basketball/cricket league then the Heads of that Ministry as well should be forced to resign. All you see them speak of is their ridiculous political issues one side fighting another with the opposition playing the antagonist our people need to make these guys aware that when they vote for someone he better come correct or he is gone. In relation to Min of Health I have seen no evidence that warrants she should stay but I think it's harsh to blame health epidemics on her as well. Most of these ministers when on TV speak of either political rubbish or something unrelated to their portfolio she has not been one of those yet but only as One Voice can we the people correct what is wrong in our country

  5. I keep seeing and hearing the same name calling and misinformation. Please give us some cold hard facts.

I do understand there is a huge difference in setting targets, accomplishing goals and showing the general public that you have done such.

In all developed countries there is still crime. The prevalence on violent crime and the speed at which is committed in astonishing to me but not in comparison but not within our own region.

I want real dialog from The Women’s arm of the United Workers’ Party, Women In Action (WIA). How are they affecting their communities and local government?

How does the WIA intent to appeal to the wider population? If the members have the issues and are that passionate the nation will pay attention given the right forum.

I can see the strives made irrespective of current or past administrations but there is still more to be done.

The majority of actual work done by this countries public and private sectors will never be spoken about or celebrated. The achievements of their combined workforce never acknowledged.

Regarding the Chikungunya cases please see the link for the fact sheet below. It is a world wide issue not just regional.

We want to open our shores to the world but fail to understand exactly what it brings into our homes.

    http://www.cdc.gov/chikungunya/pdfs/CHIKV_FACT%20SHEET_CDC_General%20Public_cleared.pdf

Health, Security, and Education should never be left behind at the expense of our own people. And the only answer is the remove the elected heads of the respective miniseries with no alternatives stating that they have fail in comparison to whom?

Also would the gutting of the posts in question also lead to the job losses / displacement for other civil servants who can be seen in the same fashion as they too are party of ministries which have drawn criticism from the WIA.

  6. Two dead bodies discovered in government. The report states that neither the Mini-Star of health, nor the Mini-Star of Security have made any meaningful movement on health or crime/safety since they walked into their current positions. Upon close investigation it was determined that the two were not dead but rather have chosen to remain in self induced paralysis except of course when it comes to self-defense and collecting that beautiful, unearned cheque each month. The nation however is left to find its way through high levels of "unsafety" both for health and crime.

  7. La corbiniere does have to go. The man is a waste to this ministry. I remember guy mayers as security minister and he was passionate about solving crime. All that seems to propel him into action is in defense to his image. Bloody waste of time and a salary

  8. ... and when they are leaving, ask them to take useless Robert Lewis with them.

    (0)(0)

    • Oh God I forgot that one too. Useless as a bone. I would have added Lorne with them but at least he seeks his photo ops, and keeps himself in the public view. He's working but just not very well. The other two though seem like they just wait for next election.

  9. I agree fully with the sentiments expressed in the press release from WIA. These two must be relieved of their positions. Although Lacorbs could be a really nice guy if you get to know him. However does not seem to know how to relate to his job. On the other hand Alvina acts like a real dingbat and she lacks the mental capacity for the work requirement of the Ministry of Health. On the basis of these reasons both of them should resign or fired.

    • Please do not insult dingbats. At least they try. I eh know what she doing, and that might be because she en know what she doing either. I still see the shock on her face everytime she on tv. Like she still cyah believe that con worked and she is an actual mini-STAR in an actual government, of an actual country, leading actual people. SMDH.

  10. The Trinidad govt. too have been very negligent on the seriousness of their crime situation. So where are we.

Now their country is in red alert and crisis mode. $3.5 million being offered for information and now talk of bringing in foreign expertise to help. The head of the Chamber of Commerce in San Fernando speaks of their failed justice system. But that happens to govts who fail to seriously address issues of crime. Crime is an insidious predator

  12. I agree. But WIA put your money where your mouth is. How do you embark on such an endeavor. NOT JUST TALK. WALK THE WALK.

  13. I TELL MY KENNY THAT BUT MR TONY SAY LEAVE HIM STILL AND YOU SEE WIA SHARE MY SENTIMENTS.LORD HAVE MERCY I HOPE WE DO NOT COME LIKE TRINIDAD.

  14. I agree! La Corbiniere should go! His ministry is a disgrace to this country and he has shown no leadership on the critical issues. He is only on tv defending petty criticisms leveled at him. Refuses to deal with the real important issues. He needs to go!

  15. Healthcare is a difficult business, and really needs an expert to be running it. Budget difficulties are impossible to contain, not just in st lucia but in the developed world. If she's been really bad and let basic mistakes pass without correction, then yes, she should go.

La Corbs is a weasel of a man. Thin skinned and only interested in the protection of his image, rather than the protection of peaceful and law abiding looshans. BE GONE YOU SORCERER!
