West Technology Group Inc wins Prime Minister’s Award for Innovation

By Office of the Prime Minister

PRESS RELEASE – West Technology Group Inc. is the winner of the Prime Minister’s Award for Innovation.

In 2014, West Technology Inc. collaborated with the Voucher Company Limited to design and implement an electronic fuel card as a payment method for the purchase of fuel at service stations.

Currently the card is accepted at 20 service stations across the island.

Implemented in June of 2014, the system is an Internet based solution that reduces the holding of cash at service stations in addition to providing a significantly cheaper option to other forms of electronic card payments.

Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony, presented the award to the winners at the Saint Lucia Business Awards held at Sandals Grande on Saturday, March 14, 2014.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Anthony emphasized the importance of innovation in today’s business environment. According to Dr. Anthony,

“The importance of innovation in our growing service based economy cannot be overstated. The ability to conceive, invent, design, interpret and re-engineer both product and process is increasingly rare and valuable. Yet, it is the very substance of survival in today’s evolving economy.

New ways of viewing, shaping and governing our world determine economic and commercial success. Innovation is therefore to be nurtured in all its forms, as in indispensable attribute of both public and private sectors.

As we continue to transform our economy, we need to embrace and reward those mavericks who engender positive change by adopting philosophies of constant improvement. ”

West Technology Group Inc. was represented by Managing Director Mr. Rashid Jn Baptiste while former Independent Senator, Mr. Everistus Jn Marie represented The Voucher Company, at the Business Awards Ceremony.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Anthony has extended congratulations to all other winners and nominees.
