St John’s, Antigua – Following reports of violence in Bangladesh on Tuesday, November 13, the West Indies Cricket Board and the West Indies Players’ Association wish to jointly assure the Caribbean public that the West Indies players and members of the Team Management Unit are all safe and that at no time was their security under threat.
As a measure of extreme precaution however, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has put additional security measures in place.
The WICB and WIPA have been in contact with the team as well as with security experts who provide consultative services to the cricket fraternity.
The area in which the violence occurred is not within close proximity to the team hotel or the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium at which the first Test match is currently taking place. All reports received by both WICB and WIPA indicate that the situation has been contained and is under control and that under the circumstances the Test match will proceed as scheduled.
A meeting with the Team Management, the BCB security personnel and the WICB security personnel is scheduled for the morning of Wednesday November 14, Bangladesh time.
The WICB and WIPA wish to reiterate their joint assurance to the public that the West Indies team is safe and has not been under any threat at any time. Purely as part of the measures of extreme precaution, the BCB security personnel have advised the team members to remain indoors. The team has conformed with all security requirements whilst in Bangladesh and will continue to do so.
The WICB and WIPA will continue to monitor the situation and remain in contact with the players and the members of the Team Management Unit, the BCB and all other relevant personnel, and will continue to provide information to the Caribbean public as the situation warrants.
