Press release: The United Workers Party welcomes Prime Minister Kenny Anthony back to the island following his sojourn in the US to participate in activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington by late Civil Rights Leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
This formed part of the “A Call to Action” campaign which brought focus on the famous “I have a Dream” speech by Dr. King.
The UWP is hopeful that Dr. Anthony’s exposure to this commemoration and the ideals embodied therein may have caused him to reflect on his own recent pronouncements which impinged on the rights of Saint Lucian citizens.
Further we do hope that by Dr. Anthony’s presence on the hallowed ground of last week’s event that he would have been gripped by the spirit of the Great Civil Rights Leader.
We trust that the experience of attending the “Let Freedom Ring” commemoration may have caused Dr. Anthony to reflect on the core values of freedom and civil liberties espoused by Dr. Martin Luther King. Further that that experience may somehow influence his future pronouncements as Prime Minister as relates to the rights of Saint Lucians.
Prime Minister Anthony may also wish to inform the nation whether he saw it necessary during his visit to the US to make contact with the US State Department or arrange to meet with them in the near future to allay their established fears over his political stewardship.
As a nation we all have a dream that Dr. Anthony’s experience in attending the 50th anniversary commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King’s March on Washington and his “I have a Dream” message would bring to his attention the urgency of upholding the sacred value of human and citizens rights at all times.
WE HAVE A DREAM!
