Water halts business flow at two establishments in Vieux Fort

Two business houses in Vieux-Fort were partially flooded today (Friday, July 28) – but not because of rain.

The Laborie Co-operative Credit Union (Vieux-Fort branch) was transformed into a shallow swimming pool this morning due to water leakage from a pipe-line in its loans department, located in the second floor of the building.

The incident has resulted in the financial institution closing its doors for business for the day. Customers in Vieux-Fort were asked to use the Laborie branch.

Up to late this morning employees were busy mopping the building, located on Clarke Street. A number of items in the credit union had to be placed outside to facilitate the clean-up.

When General Manager Lucius Ellevic was contacted for comments on the extent of the damage caused by the water, he said: ”No comments, no comments, no comments…”

Flow was the other business who had a similar problem – apparently after someone left a tap on in the building.

As a result, the telecommunications company opened its doors to the public more than half hour later than its opening time.
