Garbage collection in La Bayee, Ravine Poisson, Bexon; Goodlands, and the Morne main road are no longer taking place on Saturdays.
Garbage collection in those communities are now being done on Mondays and Thursdays only.
This development came into effect on March 17, 2018, according to Education and Public Information Manager at the St. Lucia Solid Waste Management Authority (SLSWMA), Emlyn Jean.
“All garbage must be properly secured in containers and placed on the roadside before 7 o’clock a.m. on these two collection days. A bulk waste collection service will also be provided on the first Wednesday of every month to collect unwanted household appliances and furniture. These items must be placed at the main roadside in order for them to be collected,” Jean told DBS.
However, she pointed out that in regard to bulk waste collection service, the contractor will not collect tires, construction and demolition waste, vehicle parts, and large tree parts.
“Residents are encouraged to store all their household garbage on their premises during non-collection days as there will be no roadside containers. So basically, the bins, the roadside containers, roadside communal bins, have been removed.
“Residents were used to getting a collection service on a Saturday. That was just for a bin service. Since there are no bins, then there will be no bin collection service on a Saturday, so no collection on a Saturday. So no waste should go out on a Saturday in the communities of La Bayee, Ravine Poisson, Bexon; the Morne main road and Goodlands.”
