WASCO systems affected by Saturday’s heavy rainfall

PRESS RELEASE –
The Water & Sewerage Company Inc. (WASCO) wishes to inform the public that due to the continuing heavy rainfall throughout the island, its water systems have been affected and supplies island-wide have been interrupted.

As the rains continue particularly in the forest where the water intakes are located, WASCO’s maintenance crews have been unable to venture out to investigate those intakes and undertake restoration works where necessary. Additionally, the levels of turbidity in the raw water supply have increased substantially and some systems have had to be turned off until the quality improves.

WASCO is closely monitoring the weather event and more particularly the intensity of rainfall in the forest areas and as soon it is safe to venture out, its crews will do so responsibly to address the problems which the weather event will have caused.

WASCO therefore seeks the cooperation of the public at this time and reminds everyone to keep storing a supply of potable water at all times.
