WASCO workers want their money; Union denies workers took industrial action

Employees of the Water and Sewerage Company Incorporated (WASCO Inc.) want to know when they will be paid .

David Demacque, president of the St. Lucia Civil Service Association (CSA) and Tyrone Maynard, president of the National Workers Union (NWU) said in a press release that WASCO workers “were not on strike or glow slow, protest action or any form of industrial action”.

“They just want a date on which WASCO will pay the back pay that is due,” the statement said.

The press release was issued after Demacque and Maynard addressed a joint meeting of monthly and fortnightly-paid WASCO workers earlier today.

Both leaders have indicated that the request by the water company workers “is fully justified and as such they are in full support”.

“Today the monthly paid workers joined the list of workers waiting for a date,” the release added.
