PRESS RELEASE – In observance of the Nobel Laureate Festival 2017, the Saint Lucia National Trust (SLNT) is hosting a week of activities to promote greater understanding of our culture while encouraging conversations that help us learn about our heritage.
This activity is being held under the umbrella of the Nobel Laureate Festival celebrations. The activities will be held under three categories;
-An Open House Cultural Art Exhibit; paintings interpreting various parts of the play Ti Jean and his Brothers will be on exhibit;
-Life Events of the Walcott Brothers; Cultural icons who were influenced by Sir Derek and Roderick Walcott will give students some insight of the contribution of the Walcott Brothers to Saint Lucia and beyond; and
– Roderick the Playwright; an audio visual presentation: A Celebration of His Life & Work.
According to Ms. Germaine Joseph – SLNT’s Programme Officer; Built Heritage Conservation, “These activities go beyond the visible or tangible aspects of culture and add to the uniqueness of the Walcott Brothers’ contribution to Saint Lucia. Portraying this will in turn add strength to our communities and schools”.
