The Saint Lucia Visitor Channel will officially turn eight years old this year and continues to focus on ways to fulfill it’s mandate within the ever changing tourism industry.
From inception, the channel has embraced the critical nature of the industry to St. Lucia and the opportunities it presented to visitors on ways to maximize their holiday, as well as to residents on avenues within the sector for increased economic benefit.
The Visitor Channel directors highlight the fact that “our hotel partners remain the most important ingredients to our success, even as we have grown audiences beyond just visitors”.
It is for this reason that the directors of the Visitor Channel are seeking to include all local properties by heavily discounting rates for production and for airing promotions for the accommodations sector.
This offer is particularly useful to the sector given the ‘full-time’ online streaming of the Visitor Channel, making it available to clients even before they arrive on the island (www.thevisitorchannel.tv).
Over the years the Visitor Channel has been able to devise several areas of promotion, focused on broadening the visitor experience and expanding the conversation on tourism with St. Lucians.
The early partnership established with the St. Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association was effective in expanding the effectiveness of specific programs such as the FACES of Tourism, which seeks to recognize and reward the workers within the sector.
This energy has now been expanded to the ‘Opportunities for careers in the yachting sector’ with a series of 20-minute programs developed for the Ministry of Tourism. This year the channel will refocus efforts on the ‘Village Branding project’ which started two years ago with the aim to showcase a number of communities island-wide.
With the current campaign to produce and air ‘short-form advertorials’ for the accommodation sector, we already anticipate a wide range of experiences and locations which itself promises to expand the exotic images that the Visitor Channel viewer has grown to expect and enjoy.
With the ability to bring these experience online to the potential traveler, we have no doubt that it will be a bonus to our partners who may now also link their websites at no cost for additional visibility.
