The Vieux-Fort North Youth and Sport Council has observed a significant reduction in the number of youth organizations functioning with a formalized executive structure that is fully competent in meeting their mandate.
It has also witnessed a decline in the number of young people who are willing to assume leadership roles in youth organizations. As a result some youth organizations have become non-existent or remain very limited in serving the needs of the youth. Additionally, many young people are not motivated to join youth organizations.
In response to a lack of effective leadership in youth organizations, the youth and sports council has seen it fitting to host a capacity building workshop on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the Pierrot Combined School from 10 am to 2 pm.
The main aim of this activity is to expose current and prospective youth leaders to knowledge and skills that are needed to manage youth groups. Roles of executive officers, team building and effective communication are the topics that will be addressed by Twain Edward, Nikki Calderon and Maundy Lewis, respectively.
Consequently, we are inviting all youth and sport organizations in Vieux-Fort North to select two of their members to attend this very important exercise.
It is hoped that this activity will help improve the management of youth organizations in the constituency. The council intends to implement other capacity exercises to address the issue of youth leadership in the not too distant future.
