PRESS RELEASE – Vieux Fort North and Canaries book spots in the semi finals of the 2014 Blackheart Knockout Football Tournament.
2014 SLFA Fantasy Football champions and two time beaten Finalist Canaries have booked spots in to the semi finals of the 2014 Blackheart Knockout Football Tournament.
They achieved their places after quarter final victories last evening before a massive crowd at the Soufriere Mini Stadium in Soufriere.
First to the semi finals was Vieux Fort North who registered a 3-2 win over the 2013 beaten finalist of the Blackheart Tournament Babonneau.
Vieux Fort North were led to victory by a hat trick by striker Tyson Cox with goals in the 13th, 39th and 64th minutes.
Babonneau converted in the 73rd and 77th minutes through Shane Constantine and Dellan Joseph. Vieux Fort North’s Ted Dornelly was shown a red card in the 74th minute after two bookable offences.
Vieux Fort North during the encounter lost two of their players through injury their captain and national captain Sheldon “ras” Emmmanuel and Dyson Langellier but reports on both are that they are ok at this time.
In the second encounter last evening a close encounter saw Canaries getting past Dennery one goal to nil to book their place in the semi finals of the competition.
An injury time effort by Peter James was enough to see Canaries through to the next round of the competition.
Dennery’s players were incensed after the final whistle with the officials as they thought a headed effort on goal by one of their players which was cleared off the line had indeed crossed the line.
In action from Saturday night Micoud and Soufriere booked places in the quarter finals if the competition after contrasting victories over their opponents.
Micoud registered a come from behind 3-1 win over Desruisseaux. Desruisseaux opened the scoring after Chad Flavius converted from the penalty spot in the 7th minute.
However goals from Kervin Agustin in the 16th minute,Kyron Marcellin in the 43rd minute and Levi Altidore Francis in the 48th minute gave Micoud victory.
In the other encounter, before a capacity crowd at the Soufriere Mini Stadium home team Soufriere triumphed on penalties after a hard fought encounter against Laborie.
The match ended one all at regulation time with Soufriere winning 3-2 on penalties.
Ernie Ettienne had put Laborie ahead in the 44th minute from the penalty spot but Barry Felix with a spectacular volley equalised for Soufriere in the 57th minute.
Both match days were played before massive crowds Saturday and Sunday at the Soufriere Mini Stadium.
So far 28 goals have been scored in eight matches played in the competition. At this same stage last year 31goals were scored .
The competition resumes Wednesday evening at the Beausejour Cricket Ground with the final two matches in the quarter finals of the competition.
From 6: 30 p.m. Vieux Fort South comes up against Soufriere while 8. 30 p.m Micoud takes on Central Castries.
