A US teen, whose father is St. Lucian, got his yellow ticket to Hollywood on Wednesday night on American Idol. He is the first person with Saint Lucian ties to advance so far into the competition now into its final and 15th season.
Sixteen-year-old Lee Jean Jr. auditioned last summer and then performed for judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, before he was selected to compete in the finals.
Jean Jr who resides in Bluffton, North Carolina is named after his father Lee Jean, a Saint Lucian from Patience, Mon Repos who immigrated to the United States with his family.
During his audition, Jennifer Lopez said:“you are so cute, I want to squeeze you.”
In a taped montage ahead of his performance of “I See Fire” by Ed Sheeran, Jean spoke of the impact the death of his older brother in 2012 had on him and his decision to audition.
Lee’s brother died in an accident in 2012 but had music to get him through.
Before going in for his audition his mom tells him “do it for your brother” who believed he would do great things when he grew up. Good luck Lee. Do us proud.
