(SNO) — Another round of matches was completed last Sunday in the Ezechiel Joseph, National Lotteries Authority Babonneau Super 40-Overs Cricket Competition.
At the Balata Playing Field, Touring United humbled arch rival Balata by 131 runs. Touring United batting first in a match reduced to 25 overs because of early morning showers scored 273 for 6. Leading the charge for Touring were former national player Alvin Lafeuille with 71 off 46 balls with ten fours and two sixes, Wade Clovis with 60 off 22 balls (9×4, 3×6), and team captain Shervon Joseph with 54 off 48 balls (5×4, 3×6).
Bowling for Balata, Selwyn Mc Lennan was punished as he took 2 for 19 in two overs, but veteran Hazel Foster was knocked to all corners of the ground. He conceded an alarming 69 runs in just five overs for his two wickets.
Batting second, Balata scored 142 for 6. Foster made 31 off 29 balls with (6×4, 1×6), and Rohan Albert 31 off 34 balls 4×4, 1×6) Jerry Remy took 2-15 in five overs, Rohan Charlery 2-29 in five overs, Dane Edward 2-39 in 5 overs.
Meanwhile, in the second match played at the Des Barras Playing Field, Babonneau U-19 defeated La Guerre by 181 runs to book their place in the second round of the competition. Batting first Babonneau U-19 scored a massive 349 for 3 in 34 overs, thanks mainly to a brilliant 183 off 78 balls (17×4, 13×6) from Caleb Vick Thomas. Caleb was well supported by Stephen Abraham with 44 off 46 balls (5×4, 1×6) and team captain Quaine Henry with 52 off 29 balls (2×4, 4×6).
At their turn to bat, La Guerre were all out for 168, Nickson Jean scoring 56 off 42 balls (7×4, 1×6), Bradley Marquis 42 off 19 balls (4×4, 4×6), and Isiah Sonson 32 off 20 balls (4×4). Amari Venner with 4-42 in 6 overs and Nyeem Rosemond 2-39 in 5 overs were the main wickets takers for Babonneau U-19.
