(SNO) – Team Saint Lucia emerged victorious in the fourth annual Trophée Monique Ribeaut women’s rugby sevens tournment in Gosier, Guadeloupe over the weekend, defeating hosts Good Luck for the second time this year.
Last year, Good Luck defeated Saint Lucia to lift the Trophée Monique Ribeaut.
This time around, the Lady Zandolis earned a 10-5 win over Good Luck, drubbed Martinique’s Le François 41-0, got a big 31-7 triumph over another Martinique team, La Gauloise, and blanked both St. Barths Barracudas (31-0) and RC Goyave (48-0). Good Luck had two of the six tournament shutouts.
In the final standings, Saint Lucia had 15 points, Good Luck 13, La Gauloise 11, RC Goyave 9, Le François 7, and Barracudas 5. Saint Lucia also won the “Best Heart” medal, Marline Cherry was named tournament MVP, and Donna Samuel was adjudged team MVP.
The Saint Lucia Rugby Football Union used participation in this tournament as part of its preparation for the Rugby Americas North (RAN) 7’s tournament. The RAN tournament takes place in Barbados in September.
The Saint Lucia national team consisted of Christel Cayole, Demiah Charlery, Marline Chery, Kisha Edgar, Chantel John, Electra Marcelle, Kameka President, Winnie Della Rene, Mary Roberts, Shena St. Mark and Nelta Samuel, coached by Renatta Frederick.
