(PRESS RELEASE) – The president of the Electoral Power, Tibisay Lucena, presented a balance of management in the Electoral Council of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) at the head of the pro tempore presidency in the 2016-2017 period.
During the third meeting of this instance, held in Quito, Ecuador, the progress in the implementation of mechanisms for cooperation and exchange between electoral bodies on best practices was evaluated, according to a press release from the National Electoral Council (CNE).
The meeting brought together authorities and representatives of the electoral bodies of South America and was led by the National Electoral Directorate of the Argentine Republic.
Likewise, the meeting was propitious to review the agreements signed during the IV extraordinary meeting of the Electoral Council, held in August 2016; reports were presented on the projects “Political harassment against women in political organizations,” promoted by the National Elections Board of Peru, the Supreme Electoral Tribunal of Bolivia and the National Electoral Council of Ecuador, and “Improvement of Registration Systems of Political Organizations to guarantee political, free, timely and transparent participation in Ecuador, Uruguay and Peru”.
The Electoral Council of UNASUR is focused on the improvement of the electoral systems and the democratic consolidation of the South American region.
The Mission of the International Electoral follow-up of UNASUR has witnessed impartially and independently the transparency of electoral processes in Venezuela and has verified the transparency, reliability and the vote guarantee in the nation.
