(AVN) – The President of the Republic, Nicolas Maduro, confirmed on Wednesday that Venezuela and the 120 members of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries (NAM) give all their solidarity and absolute support to the cause of Palestine and he also vehemently reject the latest interference by the government of United States and its president Donald Trump, who illegally recognized Jerusalem, the capital city of Palestine, as an alleged capital of the Zionist regime (Israel).
“Venezuela brings to Istanbul the voice of solidarity and absolute support for the cause of Palestine and rejection of the declaration by the Government of Donald Trump on the issue of Jerusalem,” said the Venezuelan Head of State during his speech at the Extraordinary Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) which deals with the serious, unilateral and arbitrary decision of the United States (USA) to move its embassy from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem.
President Maduro expressed his concern for the 120 Member States of the (NAM) for the new arbitrariness committed by the US regime against the Palestinian people and the sacred city of Jerusalem and he also highlighted that such an extremist decision lacks legal validity, violates international law and therefore, it must be retracted.
He pointed out that in the context of this situation that threatens peace, the member states of (NAM) reaffirm their support and solidarity with the Palestinian people and their commitment to contribute to the achievement of a just, comprehensive and sustainable solution to the conflict, due to the fact that any provocative and unilateral action in Jerusalem could seriously destabilize the fragile situation on the ground that would bring dangerous consequences.
“The (NAM) reaffirms its historic support and solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian people: to contribute to a fair, lasting and peaceful solution in all its aspects, in accordance with International Law, as well as to continue to support the heroic people in their quest to achieve legitimate national aspirations, including their right to self-determination, to freedom and independence in their State with Jerusalem as their capital,” Maduro said.
President Maduro called for cessation of violations and provocations by the US Government and recalled the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, including the prohibition of the acquisition of territories by force, as well as other applicable provisions of International Law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention.
Maduro called to respect resolutions 476 and 478 of the year 1980 of the Security Council through which this body confirmed that all acts and legislative and administrative measures taken by Israel, the occupying power, lack legal validity and must rescind immediately.
“We reiterate the importance of promoting international efforts in search of a dialogued, peaceful, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian question,” he remarked.
“On behalf of (NAM), I congratulate the Organization of the Islamic Community, the Arab League and we commit ourselves within the framework of the United Nations system to make all efforts immediately so that this issue is addressed and immediately fixed,” he stressed.
