NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The top-seeded Asbury University men’s tennis claimed their second straight Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletics Conference tournament title with a 5-0 victory over second-seeded Brescia on Saturday morning.

The Eagles advance to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics national tournament in Mobile, Alabama that begins on May 14.

The Eagles extended their school record to 16 wins in a season on Saturday and defeated the Bearcats for the second time this year.

Saint Lucia’s Nesbert Vaval was an early winner. He helped the 16-3 Eagles sweep the doubles, pairing with Stephen Woods to beat Lucas Ang and Robie Burch 9-7. Vaval and Woods are 5-2 playing in the number two position.

In singles action, with Asbury already up 3-0, just two victories were needed for the title. Those went to Scott Layton and Justin Westlund at 2 and 6. Vaval was leading Lucas Ang 6-2, 0-1. That match was suspended. Vaval is 9-4 this season, 6-0 i
