(PRESS RELEASE) – The United Workers Party pledges its support to the Government of Saint Lucia and encourages the general public to follow the advice form the Department on Health on the prevention of the Virus.
We understand the concern and even fear at this time but the UWP strongly believes that the measures taken and put in place by the government are very timely and if adhered to will assist in reducing the spread of the virus.
The United Workers Party supports measures such as:
-Extending the travel restrictions to the UK, some European countries and looking at the issue of developments Martinique
-Identification of facilities for quarantine and response centers throughout the island for persons who may need medial support and staffing with the necessary trained staff
-Extending the travel ban on all cruise ships
-Reducing the ports of entry to one port
-The use of infrared thermometers at the ports of entry to screen all incoming passengers
-The consideration for the suspension of all mass crowd events
-The closure of schools
-The implementation of a help hotline
-The approach to both Taiwan and Cuba for both medical support and procurement of equipment
-The procurement of additional ventilators and other equipment
-The procurement of testing equipment that allows us to do testing on island
-The purchase of addition food supplies by the government suppliers warehouse
-Discussions with private sector agencies to dialogue on the way forward on how to deal with the mitigation of the virus collectively
The United Workers Party encourages the Government and by extension the Ministry of Health to keep up the good work and as a Party we will play our part in educating the public. We will remain vigilant and we call on all Saint Lucians to come together and be our brother’s keeper in this time of crisis.
