UWP requests customs exemption on relief supplies

The United Workers Party (UWP) and its Women’s Arm have written to Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony requesting exemption from customs charges including Value Added Tax specifically for relief supplies.

“It is expected relief supplies such as water, clothing, non perishable food items, school supplies, household items and toiletries will be granted exemptions by the Government of St. Lucia,” the UWP said.

“We await word from the prime minister regarding exemptions with much urgency so we may begin to offer non partisan assistance to the people of St. Lucia in these difficult times.”

The UWP, in its efforts to assist citizens who suffered significant personal losses during the passage of a surface trough on December 24, has activated its welfare arm to seek relief supplies from the local population and the Diaspora.

    • Mr. Donnelly you must stop making a fool of yourself. Those barrels are not exempted from all duties. Time to take away the red glasses and see your country as St Lucia and not as the SLP.

  5. This is a worthwhile request but how do you ensure that the persons who need these concessions receive the goods while at the same time making sure the Government can collect revenue from persons who don't need it. The Government is going broke just this month civil servants salaries were just met and now there is clearly a need for major infrastructural works.
