PRESS RELEASE – This past Saturday 28th March, 2015, the United Workers Party successfully hosted a gala event celebrating its fiftieth anniversary at the Sandals Grande Resort and Spa.
It was a glittering occasion themed “All that Glitters IS Gold” designed to celebrate the party’s achievements as well as to honour its stalwarts and those who have contributed to the growth and development of the party.
There was not a seat to spare at the William Jefferson Clinton ballroom as over 300 supporters and party members filled the room to celebrate the occasion.
Tables were named after well-known stalwarts to recognize their efforts in building the United Workers Party.
The evening featured entertainment by famed DJ Cleus and star performers Teddyson John, saxophonist Ezra Arthur and powerhouse vocalists Derede Williams and Claudia “the Diva” Edward who also served as the host of the event.
Guests actively participated in exciting live auctions of cruises, hotel stays around the Caribbean region, airline trips as well as luxury jewelry items.
Adding some more levity to the evening, celebrated fashion judges decided the winners of the first ever “Golden Torch Awards” at which trophies and prizes were handed out to those who were the Best Dressed in keeping with the ”UWP Gold” theme of the night.
Party members and supporters were delighted by the selection of one of the longest standing party stalwarts, Mr. Herilton Celestin who won one of the night’s top honours for his dapper outfit.
After a sumptuous dinner, the evening culminated in a fiery speech by newly elected St.Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris who recounted his experience in the Denzil Douglas administration as well as in opposition against such administration.
He congratulated UWP Political Leader Allen Chastanet for his courage in mounting a legal challenge against the Boundaries Commission to ensure that any delineation of current boundaries is carried out fairly and in the interests of the general public of Saint Lucia.
His address was met with a standing ovation and thunderous applause. Political Leader Allen Chastanet rounded out the evening with a heartfelt thank you to the party stalwarts including Lady Janice Compton for their contributions over the fifty years of the party’s existence, and an expression of the party’s gratitude to the Gala Committee for organizing such a successful event.
Mr. Chastanet ended on a highly inspirational note reminding supporters and members of the historical beginnings of the party and of his party’s pledge to carry out its recently articulated Vision, Mission and Values in pursuit of a more prosperous Saint Lucia.
