UWP Gros-Islet Group wants greater protection for women

UWP Gros-Islet Group wants greater protection for women
President of UWP Women’s Arm (Gros Islet) Diane Felecien

PRESS RELEASE – The women’s arm of the United Workers Party Gros-Islet Branch is encouraged by the increased participation of women in Politics.

Mary Isaac, Gale Rigobert and Jeana Corneille are at the forefront of this movement. We are inspired by their will and tenacity.

The brutal murder of Cheryl Clarke is a painful reminder of the failure of our Leaders and Policy Makers to protect young girls and women from violence.

Let us not forget Crystal St. Omer, Simone Garnier, Cherise Benoit, Alisha Hunte and Giselle Georges.

Women, let us all stand in support of those who have taken the bold step to ensure, that we are properly represented.

We must not allow another young girl to become a victim of incest or rape. Let us play our part to find solutions for the crises facing our women and the youth.

Change is coming! The women’s arm of the United Workers Party Gros-Islet branch is ready to be a part of this change.

  1. Go girls, go ladies. Dont let the guys hold you back. I think the country will be safe with more women. Caring, attending, undertsanding, sympathy, sacrifice all comes easier and is more genuine from women.

Just look at who manages and cares for in the household. Always the woman. A woman will recognize her last dollar and hold it for food for her children and to keep the house intact. A man will recognize his last dollar and look around for two more to buy a beer. We need more ladies

  2. Way to go. There is strength in numbers, so avoid those who try to weaken the group.

  3. This above statement has validity. The mobilisation and empowerment of women is universal and not colour coded red or yellow.

  7. Why can't there be a national or community women's movement? Why does it always have to be some political arm of some silly political party. Saint Lucians this is not how civil society operates. You simply cannot develop a country and a cause on that basis. Women you are simply weakening yourselfs as a group when every initiative is seen through the prism of party politics. When will you foolish Saint Lucian women ever learn.
