Below is a press release produced and distributed by the main opposition UWP
The Castries Central Constituency Branch of the United Workers Party would like to advise the General Secretary of the SLP, Mr. Leo Clarke, that it is the people who will decide who they want as their candidate and ultimately as their member of Parliament for Castries Central.
The constituency branch would like Mr. Leo Clarke to note that the United Workers Party is a fully democratic political organization, and no leader or candidate is ever forced down the throats of its supporters unlike in some other political organizations.
The UWP Castries Central Group understands Mr. Leo Clarke’s obvious fears over our upcoming National Convention due to the fact that our party is getting itself reorganized and reenergized in preparations for the next general elections, which may have to be held sooner rather than later, given the slippery path that his political leader is currently leading the nation down.
Bearing these facts in mind, Mr. Clarke should instead of attempting to divert attention away from his party’s inability to deliver on its promised “Better days” and “jobs, jobs, jobs”, the general secretary should give some thought to brainstorming some solutions to the country’s present economic woes in order to provide his political leader with some ideas on how to ‘jump start’ Saint Lucia’s ailing economy.
Hon. Richard Frederick’s candidacy is the concern of the UWP and if Mr. Clarke’s allegations of wrongdoing against him are ever proven by facts, then the Castries Central MP will have to answer to the people and not Mr. Clarke, nor the St. Lucia Labour Party.
Mr. Clarke would better serve the Labour Party with his time by focusing on finding his party a candidate to contest the Castries Central seat, preferably someone who is without sin, who will be able to cast the first stone.
