At the first meeting of the Saint Lucia Senate on Tuesday, former magistrate Andy Daniel was appointed president and Mauricia Thomas-Francis deputy president.
St. Lucia News Online (SNO) had reported on June 27 that Daniel was tipped to become president of the Senate, according to senior sources of the United Workers Party.
Daniel, served previously as leader of opposition business in the Senate and was a former candidate for Dennery North. He is also an executive member of the ruling UWP.
Meanwhile, Thomas-Francis is a former banker who served as country manager for CIBC FirstCaribbean Southern Eastern Caribbean Islands (St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Grenada).
Government members for the Upper House include: Hermangild Francis, Minister for Home Affairs, Justice and National Security; Mary Issac, Minister for Health and Wellness; Fortuna Belrose, Minister within the Ministry for Sports, Culture; Ubaldus Raymond, Minister in the Ministry of Finance; Jimmy Henry, Minister in the Ministry of Agriculture.
Opposition senators are: Joachim Henry, candidate for Castries South East; Jerome Gedeon, candidate for Dennery South and Mr. Guibion Ferdinand, candidate for Micoud South.
