UPDATED: Medical student wounded in robbery

No arrests have been made as yet in the robbery and wounding of a medical student last night (May 14).

Thirty-two-year-old Kendal Fontenelle, a student of Spartan Health Services University, was robbed and chopped with a cutlass on his left shin while on his way to a bakery.

He was on the road side near his home at Hewanorra Orchard in Vieux Fort.

A police source told Saint Lucia News Online Fontenelle was approached by a masked man. The bandit reportedly took $25 on him and his Blackberry cellphone.

Fontenelle sustained wounds to his leg, and has been admitted to the St. Jude Hospital. He was in a stable condition up to publishing time.

  1. 1 Timoth 1:5 The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 6 Some have wandered away from these and turned to meaningless talk. 7 They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm. 8 We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. 9 We also know that law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10 for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers--and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine 11 that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.

  2. This country is out of hand with the crime rate. For such a small population the police should be more effective. In a country where everybody knows everybody don't tell me the police is the last to know who's committing crimes. If St Lucia cannot control this problem then soon enough the tourists will stop coming. Already the country is getting bad publicity overseas. I was in the UK a few months ago and went to Surrey, not a hot spot for Caribbean people and people there are talking about how they will not be coming on holiday here any time soon.

  3. When a man at his whits end .. I read these comments and most of y'all don't even live on the island things are hard not blaming politics but none if the promises made were full filled that's no excuse to commit a crime but but it is ..

    • all politicians make promises everywhere! what makes you think that it's easier for people off island? it's just as hard.

politics is no excuse but I do agree that those suiters in parliament have a part to play in the degradation of the country and can make a difference if they pull their fingers out their butts and start working for the people and not their egos.

the criminals have no excuse, they are evil at heart because the same way they struggling and starving so are their victims. I prefer to turn like bram-bram dragging my (butt) in the streets of Castries starving than to violate a hard working Lucian like myself! it's just wrong to do that to your fellow country man or anyone else for that matter.

I hope they get caught and suffer from the full strength of the law.

  12. Yeaaaaaah Vieux Fort the University Capital.
Where is the security to guard the locals and forign students. With all the high tech toys the students display in the eyes of the low lifes they will always be killed or wonded. The authorities need to step up the game fast or crime will be visiting their door steps soon.
