Three men from Bocage, Castries, who were arrested following the interdiction of a boat with drugs by policemen on Monday, August 5, 2013 off the coast of Soufriere, have been officially charged.

On Tuesday, August 6, 2013, 32-year-old Garvy Stephen; 30-year-old Shervin Dornelly and 37-year-old Ira Charlemagne appeared before the Second District Court in Vieux Fort to answer to the charges of possession of a controlled drug and possession with the intent to supply a controlled drug.

They were each bailed in the sum of $6,000 cash or suitable surety for possession of a controlled drug and $10,000 cash or suitable surety on the charge of possession with the intent to supply a controlled drug.

The matter was adjourned until September 16, 2013.

One large package, containing four smaller packages, and a white bucket containing dry green plant materials, suspected to be cannabis, were recovered from a white and blue vessel named Daily Bread.

The boat with the three occupants on board was intercepted at about 10:50 pm by Marine Unit officers.

  1. st lucia needs to change its views on the subject of marijuana. the fact that many countries in the world including a few states in the USA has or in the process of legalizing the substance, is evident that the benefits of the substance largely surpasses the cons , whether its medically or even financially . the financial advantages this substance can bestow onto our suffering country are unquestionable .. all they need to do is try to control the production and have some sort of licensing implemented for growing and selling of the product ... most likely the crime associated with it will reduce dramatically after two years or so.

  2. What about the drug bust where 270kgs of cocaine was seized there was an exchange of gun fire between the crew and police? There have been no further reports all we know one person was arrested! Why are we keeping such crimes top secret from the masses? We have a right to know. Mr Small goes down so when it's Mr Bigs turn he should suffer the same exposure!
