UPDATE: Two teenage gunmen shot during attempted bar robbery

Police said two young gunmen were shot and injured by a licensed firearm holder in Cul De Sac, Castries early Friday morning.

The suspects, 17-year-old Melvin Gustave of Entrepot and 19-year-old Ossazi Charles of Marchand, Castries have been admitted at Victoria Hospital, a police press release stated.

The release further stated that at about 2:15 a.m. on Friday, October 4, 2013, officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department were apprised of a burglary at Prio’s Bar in Cul De Sac, Castries and immediately proceeded to the scene.

On arrival, police said they received information that two armed, masked men entered the bar and demanded that everyone lay down on the floor.

The lawmen were also informed that a licensed firearm holder, who was present, fired several shots in the direction of the gunmen, hitting them in the process.

A weapon suspected to have been used in the incident was recovered and the licensed firearm holder is currently assisting police with investigations.

  1. Maybe if you took the time to see that Mary Francis has a role to play in YOUR life as well as those who dont have a voice you wont show your ignorance this way. Moving on......if more legally carrying firearm holders would assist in protecting the lives of others we would have a safer SLU.This is the crux of the matter.

  2. Its very interesting to see the comments being posted about this case. On one side I am seeing ppl saying that the act was a commendable one on the part of the licensed firearm holder. On the other, I see an argument being raised about the right of St.Lucians to carry legally licensed forearms. Lets be real here. Are we to let the criminals have their way? The law of the land allows the Commissioner of Police to grant permission for law abiding citizens to own and carry firearms for their protection and that of others. Policing is our business, and I am yet to hear of a case where a legally licensed firearm holder went about creating mayhem in SLU.We need to stop blaming the police when they act within the law. We need to stop undressing and disarming legally armed citizens who are protecting life and property. I hope the message was well sent to these two young guys, because the next time they may not even have time to blink.By the way, why is there an argument on what if the shooter shot someone else in the process? So what if the guys came and started killing everyone in the bar? Think about it.

  3. An investigation has to be done to see if the fire arm holder shot theses guys within the law, not because one has a legal firearm it means he can just shoot some one, it has to be used with the grounds of the law, I am not saying that i disagree with him , I'm just saying the law is the law therefore the circumstances has to be investigated if he operated with the boundaries of the law hats of to him if not well legally he would still be wrong

    • Frankly sir, your grandstanding is irritating and revolting. What are you going to do to me? Your perverted opinion on this matter is marked by misinterpretation and distortion.Did you fully understand the full contents of my discourse? Perharps not.

What do pillocks like you do when you do NOT agree with someone's views? You employ the laws of the jungle where anything goes. What if I was on the premises? You are insinuating that I would meet the same fate as these two poor souls just because I am against morons and dunderheads carrying weapons in the country. Licensed or unlicensed.

There are too many people carrying weapons in St Lucia, and this should not be the case. The rights of everyone on the premises was violated and breached when this trigger-happy saphead opened fire on the bandits. The bullets could have hit innocent bystanders. What then should this happen? Suppose he had killed someone in the process. What then?

People need to stop taking the law into their own hands. Leave this to the police. It's their job to serve and protect the populace.

      • Malcolm I'm trying to understand why someone who obviously seems intelligent would argue with morons who quite early know nothing of what they're talking about

      • Malcom. The very idea that the firearm was licensed, means that its holder is very well trained to discharge it. that includes that he would be trained on aim, he would know understand the law regarding the presence of civilians and act accordingly, there were no persons hurt in this incident except the bandits and he did not even shoot to kill. this is a good example if you asked me of a civilian defending others like himself. Kudos to him.

  7. The firearms holder needs to be arrested and tried in my humble opinion. By firing shots at these two individuals he put the lives of everyone else who was on the premises at risk.
Spose the bullets had hit others who were in there. What would happen then?

What he/she did was not an act of bravery but of villainy. This is quite disturbing to know that someone would shoot in a crowded place without impunity. What would happen had he killed the two lads? Malevolent acts like this should not go unpunished. To discharge a weapon in a populated place is a reckless thing to do. Over to you CPS.

    • The only reason the firearm holder needs to be charged is for missing their foreheads.. I assume that you would lie on the ground with a gun in your pocket .. and allow these hoodlums to rob the place and put the life of you and the others patrons @ steak? Way to go ! thumbs up to you! Apparently reading comprehension was not your strong area .. Everybody was commanded to get on the ground :\ They got what they deserved ..
