UPDATE: Police releases details of fatal boat accident in Soufriere

On Sunday, December 16, 2012 about 4:35 pm, officers attached to the Soufriere Police Station responded to a report which occurred at the Soufriere Water Front.

On arrival, officers received information that a 17ft 8 inch fiberglass boat named “Champion” had collided into another 12 ft 7 inch wooden boat named “Psalms 23”. The fibreglass boat was being captained by 33-year-old Smithy Marius of Canaries.  At the time 69-year-old Sylvester Prosper AKA Cowboy was the lone occupant on board the wooden boat.

As a result of the collision, Prosper was pitched into the sea and was submerged for about 15 minutes before he was rescued.  He was transported to Soufriere Hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival.

A post mortem is scheduled for a Tuesday, December 18, 2012.

Marius is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
