A man who was shot in New Village, Castries on Monday, Jan. 13 is currently in stable condition at Victoria Hospital.

Police said in a press release that 27-year-old Barney Isidore of Arundel Hill, Marchand sustained a gunshot wound to the face whilst standing in the community of New Village about 7:15 p.m.

“Reports indicate that an unknown male walked up to the victim and discharged a firearm in his direction hitting him in the face. Barney was transported to Victoria Hospital where he was treated and admitted in a stable condition,” the press release stated.

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force is appealing to anyone who has information which can assist with the investigation of this matter to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at telephone numbers 456-3770/456-3817.

New Village was the scene of the island’s first homicide of the year when on Thursday, Jan. 2, Joel Nobal, 27, otherwise called “Wells” and “Willie”, of New Village, Castries was shot in the head while sitting under a shed in his community.

At least one person was assisting police with investigations but no one has been formally arrested or charged for Nobal’s killing.

  6. Just a suggestion, st.lucia news online should have the persons who want to comment LOG IN via email because more and more I see persons coming to throw words like they know whats going on. By the way, gangsters shouldn't be online posting shit, u wanna act like you are bad ans then you all can;t even aim, taking innocent peoples lives in some situations. With email log in, at least we can track those who coming to comment "anonymously" when they have information. This needs to stop, ignorant people!

  7. Why is it every single time someone dies or people killing people, the majority of the Lucians comment blaming the government? Its not the governments fault that idiot humans in society want to play God with each other's lives. Accept responsibility as people for ur actions. Its getting old everytime SNO posts something you have all these comments blaming politicians and government officials when in reality its St.Lucian people who choose not to strive for better by the decisions they continuously choose to make. You can't help people who don't want to be helped!! I swear St.Lucians always finding a way to spread and circulate the most roro and soaps. Let the reporters do the reporting..at least they get paid to present facts given to them...what do you get?? Nothing!!! The same thing Lucia will amount to if its people don't buckle down and stop the killing, fighting and their constant need for drama and mix up.

    • Its not the gov't fault but dis ting has been going on from 2013 and not a single word from the PM or MINISTER. Why are we paying a minister for security if we not secure in this country. In 2010 dem fellas had all the answers for King n Frederick n Guy nw Y are they not implementing those answers. NOT A SINGLE WORD FROM THE GOV'T SINCE 2013 regarding our crime situation?????????

  10. OMG....The guy is doing a good thing! Like he said he got his info from the police, and they will only disclose what they want you to know. Ok, you know so much, you could of just said actually x amount of people have been arrested to my knowledge, you didn't have to come with the attitude! And people really wonder why there are so many shootings and things?! If people react like you to a minor situation you can see why it all gets out of hand really. Merrick your doing a great job! Don't let these people discourage you! If it wasn't for you we wouldn't know half the things that go on! I love how it took a Jamaican man to go St.lucia and set the whole thing up! Fellow Lucians, take some tips man!!!!! Chpzzzzzz

  12. get it right. I've been boasting that your news is reliable so don't let me take my word back. a NUMBER OF PERSONS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED, however no one has been charged. there's a BIG DIFFERENCE

    • LET ME CORRECT YOU: Because St. Lucians love to correct people without the facts. At least one person was brought into custody for questioning in relation to the homicide. Being arrested, held for questioning or assisting police with investigations, and being charged are all different scenarios. In the official press release, police said, and I quote, "one person is currently in police custody assisting with investigations." Whenever, someone is arrested, the police normally makes that very clear. And if persons were arrested, they would have been charged by now as there is a limit on how long you can hold a person, which is 48 hours (I stand corrected on that part). This murder took place on Jan. 2, 2014 - 12 days ago! I asked the police PRO up to last Friday if anyone was arrested or charged and the answer was no. If you're an officer and you believe you have correct info, then contact the police PRO or myself at 723-3148 and do not make assumptions about our reporting until you are sure.

        • Ok thanks for the clarification. To the original poster, it is still more than 72 hours and no one has been charged, or at least arrested.

          (0)(0)

      • Seriously merrick "LET ME CORRECT YOU: Because St. Lucians love to correct people without the facts".....so in your narrow eyes ALL St. Lucians have the same personality.

        (0)(0)

        • "Some" or "A lot" (smile). And my eyes are not narrow. I am in the trenches every day, I know what I know.

          (0)(0)

      • There was not only one person assisting with investigations. Maybe at the time you got the info they only kept one, however there were atleast three men taken in for questioning on the murder. Not saying your statements are wrong, just saying you cannot say someone's statement is false just because you "got it from the horses mouth". The police as well could tell you what they want you to know and not necessarily what is

        (0)(0)

        • Apparently you, like many others, do not read well. I did say I followed up with the police about any arrests made to date (as early as tonight) and the answer was NO. I agree that they can tell the media what they want us to know, however, I will NOT allow anyone to publicly get away challenging our credibility without merit when we have only based our reports on official sources of information - and not hearsay. Police will withhold information or give different information to protect witnesses and their investigations but the media is not in a position in certain cases to challenge them on this. We report... Get the drift? But when someone comes and challenges our credibility we must defend it because one ignorant person is more dangerous than a hungry lion. A lot of persons go around blaming SNO for things they know nothing about! A reputation is hard to get, easy to lose, and even harder to regain!

Again, whether one person was assisting initially and eventually 100 more persons were assisting, is not the point. The point is no one was formally arrested. That's argument I was challenged on, so do not try to twist this to suit yourself.

          (0)(0)

    • Someone being held for questioning or assisting police with investigations does not necessarily mean they were arrested. Such a person could either be a suspect or simply a witness, a family member, a friend, ANYONE. So to say police arrested several persons is incorrect. If they did, blame the police for not updating the media on their progress, especially when they were contacted and they gave no further updates!!!!!!!!!

  13. Another day in the war zone of St. Lucia. Reading this news this song came to my head by Bounty Killer. Read the lyrics carefully, if there isn't hope for the youths of the inner city ghettos what do you expect them to do?

    Chorus:
Look into my eyes, tell me what you see?
Can you feel my pain? Am I your enemy?
Give us a better way, things are really bad
The only friend I know is this gun I have
Listen to my voice, this is not a threat
Now you see the nine are you worried yet?
You've been talking 'bout' you want the war to cease
But when you show us hope, we will show you peace

    Verse 1:
Look into my mind, can you see the wealth?
Can you tell that I want to help myself?
But if it happen that I stick you for your ring
Don't be mad at me it's a survival ting
Look into my heart, I can feel your fear
Take another look can you hold my stare?
Why are you afraid of my hungry face?
Or is it this thing bulging in my waist?
    Chorus

    Verse 2:
Look into my life, can you see my kids?
Let me ask you this,do you know what hungry is?
Well in this part of town, survival is my will
For you to stay alive you've got to rob and kill
Look into my house would you live in there?
Look me in the eyes and tell me that you care
Well I've made up my mind to end up in the morgue
Right now I'd rather die, cause man a live like dog

    Verse 3:
Look down on my shoes, can you see my toes?
The struggle that we live nobody really knows
Stop and ask yourself, would you live like that?
And if you had to then, wouldn't you bus gun shot?
Look into the schools, tell me how you feel?
You want the kids to learn without a proper meal
Den what you have in place to keep them out of wrong?
If they drop out of school dem a go bus dem gun
