UPDATE: Drug eradication exercises carried out in Laborie and Dennery
Marijuana plants

Police have released some details regarding drug operations in Dennery and Laborie on Wednesday, September 18, 2013.

Police have confirmed an earlier report that an eradication exercise was conducted in Louvery, Dennery where almost 5,000 marijuana plants were uprooted from two plantations.

Meanwhile, officers attached to the Drug Unit of the Southern Division uprooted 1,611 marijuana plants on a plantation in Jetrine, Quarter of Laborie.

“Approximately 150 pounds of dry cannabis was recovered in a wooden shed on the plantation. No one was arrested in relation to this exercise,” the release said.

  1. Weed is cancerous...so is tobacco cigarettes and cigars....but because weed cannot be controlled by the authorities they make it illegal...any one can plant weed and sell...not any one can grow tobacco and turn it into a Benson stick or corner or them cigarette brands...and not even cigars can the average man manufacture...what about alcohol? It kills too...its also a leading cause of kidney damage heart failure and cancer but only the rich man can afford to produce it..so you see the plot...take out the drug that everyone can grow criminalize it...because we the authorities can't collect a fair amount from the weed trade...but the rich boys can pay us handsomely to keep their business running...and this is what's plaguing the rich...their drugs wont sell because weed in charge...will you ever get a Dr prescribing some sour orange leaf tea instead of the normal take six a day pills...

  2. The police are destroying the weed that the poor man grows while they watch upper class businessmen and politicians sell tons of cocaine. The upper class people will survive if they get busted but the poor man will lose everything and wander around trying to find food to eat. Since the poor man have no to good qualifications, finding a job will be difficult. Who will the poor man turn to. The next way of finding cash would be to rob and burglarize peoples houses. Leaving the poor man hungry will only lead to more crime. Yes i know marijuana is illegal but it helps put some food on the table. Give the poor man a chance officers. If the poor man is not in his farms working, then there will be a problem. Idle hands and minds are the devils workshop. Let them stay occupied in the hills planting marijuana. Some officers destroy weed while other who make drug busts bring them back to the their criminal friends to sell. Can remember two guys getting caught diving below a container ship in the Castries harbor. The guys were caught and arrested. the weed seized was on the streets the following week. yh true. that was some Hard Jamaican weed.

  5. So what else you think the authorities will do if not burn it, cannabis is illegal so why should they go back and sell it smh.

  6. With all marijuana seized for this year, it should amount up to 1 tonne, i hope the idiots in charge are not planning burning all of that whilst we in St.Lucia are in an economic crisis. That will just be asinine......... The average price of a pound of marijuana 800- 1000 dollars, lets say 800, there is 2000 pounds in a tonne = 1.6 million E.C, there are labs around world that buy marijuana for research purposes and we are going to stand around and beat our chest as we burn a tonne of marijuana.....then we go to the IMF and borrow millions at interest rates of 4 % . Boy we have some innovative leaders of this country....smfh. Don't think for one moment that Ralph and Trini's haven't done the math as yet...why do you think they are creating awareness of it ? And to morally correct , a similar scenario, the picture painted in the past is that if a casino is opened in St. Lucia there would be widespread prostitution, murders at the casinos and we fall into chaos. The persons who there to serve and protect our nation, and lets not forget our politicians both past and present have created more problems for our society than the casino. Some might even welcome employment has created for some of the same critics. We need to take a serous look at ourselves..........

    • The Yanks have unmanned air-crafts in the sky and that's how the RSLPF get their info. Leave the innocent plant alone.

    • "Smoking marijuana" is illegal for numerous of reasons. "Medical Marijuana" is technically legal. If it was helping the economy why would it be illegal, why is the economy suffering still with marijuana still being grown and sold , think about that....u brainless people don't even know the history/nature of this cancerous plant.
