PRESS RELEASE –  The Saint Lucia National Commission for UNESCO on Friday 26th September, 2014 made a presentation of several pieces of computer equipment (including 24 Laptops, an accompanying Laptop Cart, a Printer and an LCD Project & Screen) to the Canaries Infant School.

The computer equipment – which was officially handed over to the Canaries Primary school by the Minister for Education, Human Resource Development and Labour and Chairperson of the Saint Lucia National Commission for UNESCO, the Honourable Dr. Robert Lewis – forms part of a USD 50,000.00 “Emergency Assistance” grant secured by the Saint Lucia National Commission for UNESCO under the UNESCO Participation Programme, 2014-2015 biennium.

This assistance – which is in keeping with UNESCO’s efforts at providing aid to Member States following major disasters which have catastrophic consequences in the fields of education, science, culture or communication, and which the Member State cannot overcome on its own – is intended to replace the IT Lab at the Canaries Infant School, following the ravages of the Christmas Eve Trough in December 2013.

On behalf of the Government and People of Saint Lucia, the Saint Lucia National Commission for UNESCO wishes to express its profound appreciation to UNESCO for this significant contribution to Saint Lucia’s Education System, and as well, to take this opportunity to convey our sincere gratitude for UNESCO’s commitment to remaining “a friend in need” to Saint Lucia, having also provided assistance to Saint Lucian students, following the ravages of Hurricane Tomas in 2010.

  1. This is great news! Our missionary team from Seedlings international in Canada just returned from St Lucia after presenting in approximately 40 schools around the country! Now we all must continue to bring more resources and positivity to the people of St Lucia!
