(SKY NEWS) – A two-year-old girl has died after a crash involving a car and a lorry.

The child, from Yorkshire, was travelling with her family on the M1 at 3pm on Wednesday, Nottinghamshire Police said.

The crash happened on the northbound carriageway between junctions 26 and 27, just north of Nottingham, closing the road for six hours.

The girl was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at hospital.

A 30-year-old woman was also taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life threatening and a six-year-old boy also in the car was unharmed.

Police have appealed for witnesses and asked people to come forward with any dash-cam footage.

A spokesman said: “Were you in the area at the time? Did you see the crash but couldn’t stop?

“If anyone has any information, or any dashcam footage, please call us on 101, quoting incident number 487 of August 22, 2018.”
