Two more St. Lucian boxers in action at CAC Qualifiers in Colombia

PRESS RELEASE – St. Lucia will have two boxers in action today as the second CAC Games Boxing qualifying series continues in Bogota, Colombia.

56kg Bantamweight Travis Maynard will be first in action when he comes up against an opponent from Haiti, Pierre Marie Phelissien.

75kg Middleweight Miguel Auguste will fight against Venezuela’s Saavedra Engry.

St. Lucia’s other boxer at the qualifying series Dalton “the Hurricane” George lost in his 64kg lightwelterweight contest against Walter Duarte of Guatemala last evening.

George was the better boxer having won the first round and was leading in the second round of the encounter when he complained of not being able to breath properly and could not have continued the fight hence the referee having to stop the contest.

The conditions in Bogota have not been kind to the St. Lucian and other foreign boxers as it has been bitterly cold conditions which they have not been accustomed to which has affected their preparation for bouts and in bouts itself. Two Trinidadian boxers also complained of not being able to breath properly in their bouts and a Haitian boxer passed out not being able to deal with the conditions.

The 56 kg Bantamweight division,6 spots are available with 8 boxers registered in that division.

The qualifiers conclude on Friday night with ST.Lucia’s contingent expected home next week Monday.
