Paulinus Degailliard, Gideon Avril, and the captain Peter Sylvan, all of Deniere Riviere, Dennery, were each charged with possession of a controlled drug and possession with the intent to supply a controlled drug.
The captain was also charged for failing to stop the vessel.
Vincentian national Ronnel Lewis was remanded in custody until Tuesday, December 11, 2012.
All four men appeared before Magistrate Robert Innocent at the Second District Court, Vieux Fort on Friday, Dec. 7.
Degaillard was bailed in the sum of $25,000 on possession of a controlled drug and $10,000 on possession with the intent to supply a controlled drug. Avril was bailed in the sum of $35,000 on possession of a controlled drug and $15,000 on possession with the intent to supply a controlled drug. Sylvan was bailed in the sum of $35,000 on possession of a controlled drug, $15,000 on possession with the intent to supply a controlled drug and $2,500 for failing to stop.
The bail amounts could either be cash or suitable surety.
Degailliard, Avril and Sylvan were all bailed with certain conditions including reporting to the Dennery Police Station every Monday and Friday.
Police said the boat, named ‘Jah Guide’, was “pursued and intercepted” at about 11:20 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 by the Marine and Drug Unit off Moule A Chique, Vieux Fort within the territorial waters of St. Lucia.
It was further reported that 252 pounds of compressed “dry green plants” suspected to be marijuana was discovered on the boat when it was searched by the officers.
Police said all four men were arrested and taken into custody, and the vessel, which is from Dennery, was seized.
One of the men was shot when police intercepted the boat. However the lawmen did not say who shot the man, but stated in a press release that “one of the occupants sustained a gunshot wound to the right upper thigh area and was transported to St. Jude’s Hospital where he was treated”.
