(TRINIDAD EXPRESS) — A thief ordered five “triples” from a doubles vendor then shot and robbed him in Rio Claro yesterday.

Instead of paying for the meal, the thief opened fire and made off with the vendor’s sales.

Alex Sammy, 19, was shot in the leg while he served customers at his stall, situated along Naparima-Mayaro Road, opposite S and S Supermarket.

Around 8 a.m., the criminal went up to the doubles stall and ordered five triple doubles, other customers told police.

As Sammy served other customers, the robber pulled a firearm and announced a hold-up.

He fired a shot at Sammy, which struck him in the back of the leg.

The thief grabbed the cash as Sammy collapsed.

The assailant ran through traffic and escaped down the street.

Sammy’s customers assisted him and he was taken to Rio Claro District Health Facility.

He is listed in stable condition.

Officers of Rio Claro Police Station were alerted and searched the surrounding areas for the assailant but no one was arrested.

Police are seeking to obtain CCTV footage from nearby businesses to assist in identifying the suspect.
