(TRINIDAD EXPRESS) – The Devil’s Wood Yard mud volcano at Hindustan Village near New Grant, Princes Town, has erupted.

At around 4.20a.m on Tuesday residents felt rumbling that lasted for several minutes.

And at daybreak, they found that the volcano had spewed mud across a wide area.

However, the flow did not get close to any residences or to the recreational facilities opened in 1993 to attract tourists to the site.

The first recorded eruption of the mud volcano happened in 1852 and again about 20 years ago.

Since then it has remained dormant, with small cones emitting mud and gas over the years.
