(TRINIDAD EXPRESS) — A 14-year-old boy is suspected to have drowned at a beach in Point Fortin on Friday.
Jervon Sanchez, of Cedros, chased a ball into the water at Guapo beach, Clifton Hill, and disappeared beneath the waves, police said.
Sanchez was a form one pupil of Cedros Secondary School.
A police report said that at around 3.30 p.m. Sanchez was in company with other friends when they were playing a game with a ball.
Sanchez chased after the ball into the water, and got into difficulties.
His friends alerted a vendor nearby, and the searched but was unsuccessful.
Around 5.12 p.m. the teenager’s body washed ashore, about 250 feet from where he was bathing, the report said.
Emergency Health officers responded and attempted cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, but he remained unresponsive.
He was taken to hospital and a doctor pronounced him dead on arrival at the Point Fortin Area hospital.
