PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, Feb 12, CMC – Four people, including a Special Reserve Police Officer, have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a 24-year-old Venezuelan woman on Monday night.
Police said that the unidentified woman had been picked up “against her will” in Diego Martin west of here and she was rescued after police officers on patrol stopped a vehicle in Central Trinidad.
“The search resulted in officers discovering the victim being held against her will in the vehicle. She was taken for medical treatment and the two suspects who were in the vehicle at the time of the search were arrested in connection with the incident,” the police said in a statement.
They said the suspects – a 28 year-old Special Reserve Police Officer and a 39-yearold truck driver-were taken into custody and that the two other suspects – a 35-year-old engineer and a 37-year-old casino worker – were detained when they arrived at the police station enquiring about the suspects.
Several Venezuelan nationals have fled to Trinidad and Tobago to escape the ongoing political and economic situation in their country. Last week, police rescued 19 Spanish-speaking nationals after raiding several businesses and private homes in west Trinidad.
