(TRINIDAD EXPRESS) – Three men are currently in custody after they allegedly targeted and robbed several gay men in the Northern Division.
The suspects, who are all between the ages of 18 and 22, would join chatrooms and websites for homosexual men, and contact their intended victims.
They would then arrange to meet the men at certain areas in public between Curepe and Arima, following which they would rob the unsuspecting men.
However, police received intelligence on this operation, and launched an exercise with the aim of arresting the suspects.
Based on information and intelligence gathered, yesterday morning, officers of the Arouca CID and Northern Division Task Force, led by ASP Gyan, with assistance from Sgt Highly and Cpl Bernard, went to the Bon Air community where they held three men.
Some of the items which had been reported stolen were also found and seized.
The men are expected to be placed on several identification parades this week, following which they will be charged.
Police are urging members of the public to be mindful and vigilant, and exercise extreme caution when meeting people on social media sites.
PC Kerr of the Arouca CID is continuing investigations.
