Trinidad: Cop on suspension gets promotion

By T&T Express

(T&T EXPRESS) – Charged with two criminal offences and suspended from the Police Service, Billy Ramsundar on Monday went to Police Headquarters, Port of Spain to be promoted.

He received a letter from acting Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams stating that he was promoted to the rank of sergeant.

Williams was summoned to the San Fernando High Court last week after Ramsundar filed an application for contempt of court following the non compliance of a year old court order that he be promoted to the rank of sergeant.

Williams entered into a consent order to promote Ramsundar by Monday.

Also there to witness the promotion was Deputy Commissioners of Police Earla Christopher, Deodat Dulalchan and Harold Phillip.

Ramsundar is on suspension charged with malicious damage and assault.

However, the judge ruled that the order to promote Ramsundar still stood since it was made prior to the suspension from the Police Service.
