(TRINIDAD EXPRESS) — A Chaguanas teacher and her parents were tied up, robbed and left to burn in a house set on fire by the criminals on Sunday.

The 28 year old woman, and her parents managed to untie themselves and escaped the blaze.

Around 10.30 p.m. the teacher was entering her home at Thomas Village, Chaguanas, when she was accosted by a man armed with a cutlass.

He pushed her inside, tied her with duct tape and demanded cash and valuables.

Two other men stormed the house and ransacked the rooms.

The victim’s parents, who are owners of a bar and food business, entered the house and the assailants tied them up also with duct tape.

The assailants beat the teacher and her father demanding money.

They packed up the families cell phones, Ipad, computer valued $11,500 and day’s sales of $3,500.

Leaving the family tied up in the house, the criminal lit the two storey house on fire and escaped with the loot.

The family freed themselves and ran to neighbours for help.

Fire and police officers responded.

The family was taken to the Chaguanas District Health Facility where they were treated and discharged.

Acting Corporal Phillips of the Chaguanas CID is investigating.
