Total Tennis Club successfully hosts Hallmark 12 & under Tennis Tournament

(PRESS RELEASE) – The Total Tennis Club concluded its Inaugural Hallmark 12 & under Tennis Tournament over the weekend with superb match play from the juniors.

It is often a rare case in tennis tournaments hosted at the Tennis Centre that there are more girls than boys registered well, that was seen at this tournament as the ratio of boys to girls was 2:1. This says a lot for the development of the sport in St. Lucia as more girls are playing tennis now.

There was participation from four clubs on the island; Vernon Lewis International, Acers Tennis Club, Toni’s Tennis Club and host Total Tennis Club. A total of eight players represented Toni’s Tennis Club from Micoud, Acers Tennis Club had eight players, VL International three and host club TTC with 6 players.

Players from the Association’s Grassroots program and Schools Tennis Initiative Program (STI) also participated.

Jowell Philip from the La Guerre Primary School student of the STI program emerged champion in the consolation draw. He was awarded a pass to the Splash Island Water Park; Splash Island donated six passes to players in the tournament.

Jonas Sylvester coached by former Davis Cup Hall of fame recipient Vernon Lewis made the main draw without losing any matches or sets in the round robin phase of the competition. Sylvester student of The Montessori Centre defeated Nathaniel Charles student of the Gros Islet Primary School in straight sets to make the final. He then went on to defeat Cheyne Louis also student of The Montessori Centre in a tough match for Louis. Sylvester won the match in straight sets making this his first Tennis Tournament Victory.

Iyana Paul student of the Balata Primary School and former participant of the Caribbean Junior Invitational had a smooth ride in the round robin phase of the tournament. She defeated Latoya Murray student of the Grande Riviere Primary in straights sets in the semifinal and Amelia Rosemond in straight sets in the final. Iyana did not drop any sets in the entire tournament.

Tournament director and Club Head Coach Dean White wishes to thank on behalf of The Total Tennis Club Hallmark for sponsoring this event and hopes it can be an annual event on the Club’s calendar.

TTC also wishes to thank Splash Island for their donation of which went to the outstanding players in the tournament. Special thanks to Barbara Louis for providing meals for the players, Ms. Marie Jn. Baptiste for assisting and the entire tournament team.
