St. Lucian sporting fans are expected to be in for a treat come November 2, 2013 when the Asylum Fight League (AFL) is expected to put on a major mixed martial arts event at the Beausejour Cricket Ground.
Two officials from the AFL have been in St. Lucia laying the ground work for the major international mixed martial arts event which is expected to feature fighters from all over the world to crown the best overall mixed martial arts champion over 185 pounds.
The two officials have met officials from the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, St. Lucia Tourist Board, minister and Ministry of Tourism, Sports St. Lucia Inc, LIME, Digicel, major hotels in the north of the island, and other relevant stakeholders.
Eliminations to get 16 fighters for the event will be held in Germany, Italy, Canada, Brazil, USA, Israel, England, and from a country in the Caribbean to be determined.
Meantime, the AFL is working in conjunction with the St. Lucia Amateur Boxing Association in staging the event.
The St. Lucia Amateur Boxing Association will stage five major amateur boxing bouts on the evening of the event, featuring several of the island’s top amateur boxers.
