Two organisations have come in support of the Saint Lucia Calypso Association (SLCA) pledging thousands of dollars in support to the entertainment body for the staging of this year’s calypso season and beyond.

The Eastern Caribbean Collective Organisation (ECCO) on Tuesday committed its financial and logistical support to the SLCA in the value of $25,000.

General Manager of ECCO Steve Etienne told a press launch at the Auberge Seraphine that this support will go towards providing the association with office space and to conduct its carnival business. ECCO’s donation includes radio promotion, advertising spots and a cash contribution of $7,000. The funds are expected to also help with tent performances.

Etienne said lauded the efforts of the calypso association and said ECCO – the organisation tasked with collecting performance royalties – is pleased to align with the SLCA.

Distributors of Crix, Lumnat Distributors also presented a checque to the association in the sum of $5,000 towards the most “humorous song of the season.”

Meanwhile, the winner and runner up of last year’s CIE Nation Building Song competition Wulstan “Walleigh” Alfred and Cornelia “Animator” Jacob respectively, were presented with their winning cheque prizes at the press launch.
