A post mortem conducted today on the body of a 15-year-old girl who was found hanging in her closet, has confirmed the manner of death.
Ebony Darius died from cerebral anoxia secondary to ligature hanging, well-placed sources told St. Lucia News Online.
Anoxic brain injury results from a complete lack of oxygen to the brain, according to medical sources.
“When oxygen levels are significantly low for four minutes or longer, brain cells begin to die and after five minutes permanent anoxic brain injury can occur,” a medical source on the web stated.
According to a press release from the Royal St. Lucia Police Force, “About 11:20 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 2014, officers of the Gros Islet Police Station responded to a call at Piat, Grande Reviere, relating to the apparent suicide of a 15-year-old female student of the Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School.”
“Reports indicate that the teen’s mother Delia Darius found her hanging by a belt in her bedroom closet,” the press release further stated.
