Teenager charged for murder after victim removed from life support

A 19-year-old is now behind bars for the murder of another teenager.

Cornelius Evans was charged on Friday, Oct. 25 for hitting 18-year-old Danive James of Grace, Vieux Fort in the head.

James was removed from life support machines last week Tuesday, police said.

The deceased, also known as Dave, sustained a blow to the temple during an altercation on Oct. 13, 2013 about 7 p.m., police said.

Residents in Grace told St. Lucia News Online (SNO) that a stone was used to hit James, who was in a coma at the Intensive Care Unit of St. Jude’s Hospital.

“Dave was at a shop near his home buying a phone card. While stepping out a fight broke out and a stone was used to hit him in the head. He fell to the ground without a word. He never spoke a word after that,” a resident said.

  1. Instead of wondering why this happened lets try to ensure that it does not occur again. We need to instill better family values in our kids. We need to ensure that they are able to mediate and resolve conflicts without resorting to violence. We need to teach them to respect others and most of all self-esteem. They need to know that they don't have to be fighters to be recognized or to earn respect or to simply fit in.The problem stems out from the home in most instances. Parents too often neglect their roles as parents

    • People do not change so easily..He was troubled before and people do change? And Dave surely won't see another sunrise, a mother and father won't see their son again because of a senseless act, you think it is easy for the family to move on from this seeing that the son lost his life for no reason? I am sure if that shoe was on your feet, you would be singing like a canary! It is easy for you to sit behind your computer and type whatever you want, but this situation is very real for the victim's family.

  7. According to persons who were present on the scene, there was no altercation, there was no arguing or fighting. The young man just took the stone and hit the deceased with the stone, when the guy fell to the ground, he simply passed and looked at the guy on the ground and walked away. Up to now, people are baffled as to why that happened cause there was no prior squabble. Then the mother of the accused, comes to the hospital and tells them that "c'est barguy mar-my" A life is lost and you come with that crap about "c'est barguy mar-my"..

  8. Yeah its sad eh? But kids don't do what they have not been taught. Grown-ups need to shoulder most of this blame. They have spread hate in the society which have permeated to the lower rungs of our society. When our politicians and those in authority start preaching hate nobody steps in and cautions them or take action against them. But as soon as a hate crime is committed we feel all kind of sadness for the victim and re-engineer hate against the perpitrator. We even embrace our so called politicians when they preach hate against their or even our opponents. Welcome to the Devil St. Lucians.

  9. it's not the injury that kill him it's the lack of proper medical attention. St.Jude's hospital should be charged to.

    • are you stupid or what if u can read u would see that he was taken off life support.... the doctors or hospital is in no way to blame .... only you, your parent or guardian have the authority to give doctors permission to take you off life support ...... get your facts straight before u start talking shit
